Hurt Locker was/is way overrated. But of course, one cannot say that because it might imply lack of support for our troops. Which is not the case. I deeply respect the work of 'bomb squad' units and the risk they take, but I really thought the Hurt Locker was just an average movie, with average directing, and average writing, although the subject matter certainly was important. Even my fellow army buddy thought the same, and commented that most soldiers are not hot-shots and do not speak to locals with disrespect as depicted in this film.

True that Avatar Roks

Avatar was the most predictable movie I have ever seen. The only thing good about the movie was the 3d effects. Weak story done 100 times just modernized. A movie should never win best picture based on Box office or effects

Cameron should have stayed with Bigelow (Cameron's ex-wife) His current wife....eeew

Just because a movie makes a lot of money, does NOT mean that it should win an Oscar.

Avatar took years to make and unlimited truck loads of money. It had a great message, but it was, primarily, fanciful, its animation and special effects made it unusual. The Hurt Locker was a low budget, realistic (i.e., Iraq as an every day diet for soldiers) touching movie, very well acted. I don't think anyone deserves squashing with her ex-husband's wallet - even Cameron agreed she'd made a stand-out movie.

The Hurt Locker was good, but it wasn't THAT good. I think Avatar should have won best picture & best director. Much better movie in my opinion.
